Mid August Progress

The clearing of the underbrush is ongoing and relentless. (but still fun!) We spent over 3 hours yesterday and it was a bit too much for us little ol’ ladies! Strength and stamina are increasing, but we definitely need to take more breaks throughout each work session.

Perhaps something as simple as going to the top ‘lawn’ to appreciate the unobstructed spectacular view!

We are trying to focus on reducing the underbrush in the ‘driveway’ area since that’s kind of a lynchpin of getting some small machinery in there to shape things and move heavy logs, and mulch like crazy.

Clearing Results

Have been struggling to find available surveyors to do a topographical map of the land. They are all swamped due to the crazy real estate market. I did find a lovely guy who did a 3D image of the property…you can apparently do all kinds of measurements and analysis with these. The software (where I have a ‘free trial’) to view this is not that intuitive. I don’t really want to waste any time trying to learn it…plus….I’d rather be on the land instead of behind a computer. One of my reasons for retiring here is to heal from all that computer work.

Have been making little discoveries while in the midst of the clearing work…like this little beauty.

fantastic fungi

One of my crops that I want to experiment with is mushrooms. I already started a small cache of logs to inoculate later.

Meanwhile, my collection of log rounds is growing too. I’m hoping to do some path paving or maybe the floor of the sheds.

The beginnings of what will likely be a massive pile of firewood!
