Chipper Jones!

Big day yesterday. The long awaited special chipper arrived and took 2 piles of logs and reduced them down to beautiful wood chips.

This machine is one of two on the island and is the only one capable of feeding itself.

For perspective, here is a 5’3″ tiny human next to the wee beastie.

This is the business end where the logs get inserted by the claw. I think the max diameter of logs that can go in is around 12 inches. Behind that is a set of 6 spinning blades that make short work of whatever goes in.

These were too big to go in. The pile painted pink in the background is the pole barn.

And the final aftermath. Basically what remains is the stuff that’s too small to go in. (or too big)

It’s a huge relief to have those big log piles gone. This week, we get a topographical survey and then comes road, tank and barn.
