Everything is moving along.
This week the boys started on the framing for the wrap around lanai (porch).

The waist high romping weeds on the terraces. Vigorous. Stubborn. Prolific.

Terraces tamed somewhat. At least you no longer have to plow through the weeds. The weed block is a temporary measure just to turn down the volume of growth and feel less overwhelmed. Plus, it’s now possible to walk down the wide path to the bananas at the bottom.

Making some creative reuse of offcuts from the house build. This area is particularly challenging because of the old immovable lava flow underneath. The guys who did the excavation work called them ‘fins’ (like a shark fin sticking out of the water.) They can probably be jack-hammered, but I like the challenge of building around them.

Progress is slow as each box is built to fit the spot. The boxes that are stepping up along the fence line are there for a wall of vetiver to help slow down the water runoff from the neighbors pasture above.

This is the hill looking down from above. I have visions of Santorini. The whole area covered in boxes planted with succulents and colorful plants. This place has Zero shade, so the plants need to tolerate the southern sun beating down. It’s a hot mess now, but deeply satisfying work. Oh and there’s a buried plumbing line that needs to stay accessible. Details Schmetails.

Meanwhile….the canna’s are showing off…
