The build continues….below are the massive 6×12″ beams that hold up the wrap around lanai. They are sanded, chamfered and then hoisted into place. There was grunting involved. Plus some giggling.

These are the beautiful 6×6″ cross members of the top of the stairs. Also sanded, chamfered and bolted in place. The quality of the workmanship is breath taking.

This is the pile of knee braces that will join each post to the beam above.

Here’s a video of the last 2 beam pieces being hoisted into place.
The next pile of lumber to be used for the 2nd story. There are 4 more pallets too.

I have not been idle either. Finally finished getting my ‘compost corner’ operational. Made from pallets and scrap from the build. There are 2 bays.

I also created a ‘living fence’ of mexican sunflowers (tithonia diversifolia) with some scrap-pile jungle steps. The sticks are some local night blooming jasmine (not sure if they will root or not). In between them are the sunflower cuttings. I got a couple of starters from a neighbor.

This is the cutting starting to shoot. (after only being in the ground for about a week)

In a recent weeding expedition, this magnificent patch of mushrooms was discovered. When I sent the picture to a local mushroom grower he came back with ‘anything is edible at least once’. I’m letting them be. Future mushroom growing will happen here, but from edible spawn.

Happy Gladiolas!
