Things have slowed down and the first significant storm of winter has hit. Very glad that all of our trees were already down….this one tree was the last hold out, but the storm knocked it over.
The winds were pretty fierce and seemed to have no trouble picking up a 75 lb water tank panel and knocking it over. Boy do I wish the tank had been assembled. First night of the storm saw 11 inches come down. In addition to losing power for 2-3 days, many of my neighbors lost water too. SO SO glad I will be off grid.
First day of the storm we drove up to the land to make sure that the piles of dirt haven’t slid down to visit the neighbors. Pretty much all the ravines/gulches were packed with debris. The force of the water ripped off guard rails like they were nothing.
Approaching the land (the bare patch with piles of dirt & logs on the right). Some of the trees on the North side (the ones leaning downhill) came down across the road and onto the power lines.
This is about 3 or 4 young acacias and some wild olives that have fallen and they couldn’t get up!
I took my cordless chainsaw and tried to punch a hole to clear the road. It was more than I could handle.
Left it to the professionals. They did a great job and cleaned up the debris in the days that followed.
Surf was so high, it was depositing bread loaf sized coral in the trees!
Overall, we lost power for 2 full days and took the shortest showers to make our hot water last. Cooked on a butane gas stove because all appliances are electric.
We used our cars to charge phones and had to look up the rules to gin rummy online since it’s been probably 20+ years since I’ve touched an actual deck of cards.
